The economic crunch of the tightening oil supply seems in evidence in two major pieces of business news. One invovles Newell Rubbermaid’s cutting back on the types of plastics products. The other involves General Motors’ decision not to pay out dividends to shareholders.
This is how change is going to happen. The more costly petroleum and [...]

Train Song
Matthew Yglesias wonders about expanding train service as a way to offset fuel consumption. I have often wondered if this is not a great opportunity to test out some private/public partnership strategies. "the wolf did finally eat the boy."
"It’s not this dangerous secret. I haven’t manipulated the data, it’s all data in the public domain. Anyone can do it, they’d just rather not." "And you are being told by large numbers of people with very official titles that you are wrong.""Yes." "But you’re not?""I don’t think [...]
Gas Prices Up 3.9 Cents This Week
So says WaPo. Peak Oil, what peak oil? Expect the price to keep climbing over its 60 day averages pretty much for.. well, the forseeable long term future.
Of course, there’s a lot of money involved in the political discussions involved in energy policy, but the highlights are that the data on oil prodcution is [...]
